For most homes, the ideal exterior light height is just about eye-level for most people. In most front door and entry areas, your outdoor sconces and wall lights should be positioned so that the center point is right around 66 to 72 inches above the floor.
path lights are an important safety feature, illuminating the right way to traverse your outdoor spaces. They also help guide guests toward your home or around your garden. But a common mistake homeowners make with path lighting is simply installing too much of it. Not every path needs to be lit.

For best results, place the lighting fixture a few feet away from the feature, and give it a sideways angle. It maintains an even and somewhat subtle ambient lighting for the nearby area by shining it alongside the wall. Wide-angle outdoor flood light with low wattage is recommended for this as opposed to a spotlight.
Too Many Lighting Fixtures You wind up risking that your walkways look more like airport runways or that your spotlight fixtures are blinding rather than being helpful in seeing where youre going. Soft lighting that is strategically placed is also much more attractive.
