hi im michelle welcome back in this episode i want to talk about the ways that your legal name is changed in the u.s we have our official legal name which is put on our birth certificate and different countries have different rules on how you can be named and im not going to address that here but our first place for our official legal name is on the birth certificate and then if you are adopted your parents your adopted parents can apply to have your birth certificate changed that can be a part of the adoption proceeding or an administrative proceeding after the adoption and again thats relating to your legal name when you are married you can change your name at that point usually its just the last name you might also change your middle name because you might now use your original last name which is you make the spouses last name as your last name and so thats part of when you are married and so on your certificate of marriage it would go on there and it would then be filed away

You can use whatever name you like as long as you're not doing it to commit fraud. You don't have to get your name changed by deed poll, you can just use a different name at work if you want. But it might be worth telling your employer it's not your legal name, just in case there's any confusion.
You can keep your existing name. You can use both last names—with a hyphen or without. You can take your spouse's name, but use your former name strictly in a professional setting. Some states even allow you to move your old name to your middle name, and then tack on your new last one.
It's still advisable to record the employee's change of name , which again you can generally do by way of a side letter to the written statement or contract. Where the change is due to a new gender identity, ideally issue a new full written statement or contract using the employee's new identity (see Follow up ).
For purposes of what people call you, YES. But for pay and other official items, NO. In the U.S., to go by another name for tax and employment purposes, you would need to change your name legally.
Employers: If an employee legally changes his or her name because of marriage, employers should continue to use the old name and tell the employee to contact Social Security to obtain an updated card.
If you need to update both your employee's name and gender, you must report these changes in separate Full Payment Submissions ( FPS ). If you don't, HMRC may create duplicate payroll records and your PAYE bill may be higher than it should be.
To change the name of your LLC or corporation, you will need to file “Articles of Amendment” with your state. Once approved, you can start operating under the new name.
You'll need a Government Gateway user ID and password. If you do not have a user ID you can create one when you update your name. Your name will be updated automatically if you change gender.
What order to update your documents and records tax record (e.g. letter from HMRC, Child Benefit Office, or other tax authority) employment record (e.g. payslip or official letter from employer) educational record (e.g. school report) letter from central, regional, or local government department (e.g. council tax bill)
If you need to update both your employee's name and gender, you must report these changes in separate Full Payment Submissions ( FPS ). If you don't, HMRC may create duplicate payroll records and your PAYE bill may be higher than it should be.
