Can we create our own AMI?

You can create an AMI using the AWS Management Console or the command line. The following diagram summarizes the process for creating an AMI from a running EC2 instance. Start with an existing AMI, launch an instance, customize it, create a new AMI from it, and finally launch an instance of your new AMI.

How often are Amazon AMI updated?

AWS provides updated and fully-patched Windows AMIs within five business days of Microsofts patch Tuesday (the second Tuesday of each month). The AWS Windows AMIs contain the latest security updates available at the time they were created.

Is it possible to change an instance type after it has been created?

You cant change the instance type of an instance that has an instance store root volume. Instead, you must create an AMI from your instance, launch a new instance from this AMI and select the instance type that you want, and then migrate your application to the new instance.

Can I update an AMI of EC2 instance?

The answer is that you cannot replace the AMI for an existing EC2 instance. However, you can replace the root volume with a new volume which is basically the same thing. That new root volume can come from another EC2 instance.

How do I create a custom AMI image?
