Tax-exempt organizations must use their EIN if required to file employment tax returns or give tax statements to employees or annuitants. (Note: The tax-exempt organization should have only one EIN. Once the organization receives an EIN, the organization will use it from one year to the next.)
Will my nonprofit be given a 501(c)(3) number separate from its Employer ID Number (EIN)? No. Your EIN is the only number issued to your organization by the federal government. When your nonprofits 501(c)(3) status is approved by the IRS, you will receive a written notice, known as a letter of determination.
The most common policy for member organizations is to call a meeting of members and notify the board member in writing that they will be voted upon during said meeting. From there, bylaws can require the majority of (or sometimes more) members to vote to remove the board member.
Therefore, the IRS considers them a business entity and requires them to get an EIN. The EIN is a federal nine-digit tax number designated by the IRS to a variety of different entities, including nonprofits, charities, organizations, and businesses. It follows a format like: ##-####### (12-3456789, for example).
If you believe its time to change your charitys name, youll need to file paperwork with both the California Secretary of State as well as the IRS. Altering your name without filing the necessary paperwork could lead to fines or even the loss of your tax-exempt status.
EINs never expire, and once an EIN is assigned to an entity, it will not be reissued even if the entity disappears.
An organization that does not file an annual return (for example, an organization that instead files Form 990-N, the e-Postcard), or an organization that wants a letter acknowledging the name change, may report the change of name by letter or fax (not by phone) to Customer Account Services.

Even though nonprofit organizations dont conduct business in the traditional sense, they do employee staff. Therefore, the IRS considers them a business entity and requires them to get an EIN.
