When creating a new commit, ensure the 'commit-msg' hook has been installed in your repository (see above), and don't put a Change-Id line in the commit message. When you exit the editor, git will call the hook, which will automatically generate and insert a unique Change-Id line.
You can change the most recent commit message using the git commit --amend command. In Git, the text of the commit message is part of the commit. Changing the commit message will change the commit ID--i.e., the SHA1 checksum that names the commit. Effectively, you are creating a new commit that replaces the old one.
Updating an old commit If a commit was created before the availability of Change-Id support, or was created in a Git repository that was missing the 'commit-msg' hook, simply copy the “Change-Id: I… ” line from the first line of the Description section of the change and amend it to the bottom of the commit message.
How do I pull a specific commit? The short answer is: you cannot pull a specific commit from a remote. However, you may fetch new data from the remote and then use git-checkout COMMIT_ID to view the code at the COMMIT_ID .
Using git commit --amend to remove Change-Id line can fix this problem.
In a different web browser tab, go to your GitHub dashboard . In Your repositories, choose the repository name that contains the target commit. In the list of commits, find and copy the commit ID that refers to the revision in the repository.
To undo changes associated with a specific commit, developers should use the git revert command. To undo every change that has happened since a given commit occurred, use git reset.
In order to remove some files from a Git commit, use the “git reset” command with the “–soft” option and specify the commit before HEAD. To remove files from commits, use the “git restore” command, specify the source using the “–source” option and the file to be removed from the repository.
Commit IDs are unique SHA-1 hashes that are created whenever a new commit is recorded. If you specify a commit ID when you add a repository, Domino will always pull the state of the repository specified by that commit in a detached HEAD state.
To squash the commits, use git rebase -i to do an interactive rebase. For the example above where the last two commits have the same Change-Id, this means an interactive rebase for the last two commits should be done. For further details about the git rebase command please check the Git documentation for rebase.
