So in this lesson we will learn how to make some fancy headers and footers in a document and we will be using the document class of book because book offers us a lot of variety so that we can explore all these features and the package which we will be using is called fancy header so which is denoted by fancyhdr. So this is the package and only this package we will be discussing and then later may be we will use the package geometry which we have already discussed in one of the previous lectures so only with the help of these two packages we will see how we can achieve different forms of headers and footers in a document so in this document this is some text nothing special about this this last paragrapgh, this is just a dummy text which i have put here just to increase the number of pages i actually just copy and pasted some text twice so that we can get some pages in this document and there is some detail about this package which we are discussing now so this will be helpfull for you

By default, your LaTeX document has a Chapter name (Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc.) for each chapter. If you want to remove such chapter name from your document, then you can use titlesec package and define the titleformat in order to hide the chapter title.
The ideal way to add chapters to your LaTeX document while writing a book is by creating a separate file for each chapter. These individual chapter files do not need a preamble. All you need to add at the beginning of each chapter file is the name of the chapter using the \chapter{..} command.
\subsection*{Headings in the `article Document Style} In the `article style, the document may be divided up into sections, subsections and subsubsections, and each can be given a title, printed in a boldface font, simply by issuing the appropriate command.
If you want no header or footer use \pagestyle{empty} . After that page set it back to \pagestyle{fancy} or whatever you would like to have. EDIT: better: If you want no header or footer on just one page use \thispagestyle{empty} .
For unnumbered chapters, you could just use \chapter*{Acknowledgements} and \chapter*{Introduction} . These chapter will be formatted similarly to \chapter , without the number and not show up in the ToC. Subsequent chapters will be numbered 1 , 2 ,
Writing text in a LaTeX document is easy. Once you are inside the body of the document, as described in the Document Structure section of this page, all you have to do is start typing. When you compile the code LaTeX will take care of all the text formatting based on any commands and packages used.
% Clear all headers and footers (see also \fancyhf{}) \fancyhead{}\fancyfoot{} % Set the header and footer for Even % pages but omit the zone (L, C or R) \fancyhead[E]{Header: even page \thepage} \fancyfoot[E]{Footer: even page \thepage} % Set the header and footer for Odd % pages but omit the zone (L, C or R) \
If you want to use the beginning of the Reference section as the last page, you can add a label immediately after \newpage , say \newpage\label{mylastpage} , and use that label in \pageref{mylastpage} . If you want to use the end of the Reference section as the last page, add the label after \bibliography{referencec} .
Standard LaTeX accomplishes this with a two-stage approach. In the header and footer definition, you use the commands \rightmark and \leftmark to represent the current section and chapter heading, respectively. The values of these two commands are overwritten whenever a chapter or section command is processed.
A simple \chapter command in the \frontmatter will not give a numbering and correctly set the header. If you want the unnumbered chapter in the \mainmatter , then you can use an explicit \chaptermark command.
