To use a formula in report: Create a new formula. Open the Field Explorer (Crystal XI: View Field Explorer; Crystal 8.5: Insert Field Object) Right-click on Formula Fields. Select New. Enter a name for the formula. Click OK. Use the Formula Editor to write the formula.
To add the formula field, go to the Field Explorer panel. Click on Formula Fields to select it. Right click on Formula Fields, then select New.
Under Field Explorer, right-click on Formulas New give it a meaningful name (for example, Group1) Double-click the newly created formula. This would bring you to the Formulas tab of the report. Within the procedure block of this formula, type in the expression GroupName{[table.
Formula cannot use another formula field that directly or indirectly refers to itself. Your formula field cant directly or indirectly reference itself.
Answer: Open the report in Crystal Reports. Open the Field Explorer. In the Field Explorer, right-click on Formula Fields. Click New. Enter a name for the formula and click OK. The formula workshop window will appear. Click Check (X+2 button with a green checkmark) to identify any errors in the formula.

Select Formula and click Next. In Field Label, type My Formula Field. Select the type of data you expect your formula to return. Click Next.
Accessing the Formula Editor In the Field Explorer, right-click Formula Fields and click New. Tip To display the Field Explorer, click the Crystal Reports menu, click Field Explorer. In the Formula Name dialog box, enter the name you want to identify the formula with. Click Use Editor. The Formula Editor appears.
