this futures hedging example uses currency futures and you can pause this video a little bit and read the story right here to see um whats up but heres a quick summary of what thats all about so lets say that today june 1st all right you have 10 million pounds in a british bank and youre an american and lets say right now the exchange rate between the us dollar and the pound sterling is a doll 25 cents per sterling so what this means is that right now your money in the british bank is worth 12.5 million dollars now though you plan to transfer this money um sometime later subsequently in september right so today is june and the fear here is that the pound sterling may go down in value which means that youre gonna get less in dollars after conversion so to hedge this currency risk youre going to sell pound futures in a short hedge and lets say that right now the futures price for the maturity that you seek which in this illustration is the september futures it is uh adult 23 ce
