You will need to obtain the adult name change petition either online or in person at your county courthouse. The petition and the required form ask for basic personal information, and you should be able to fill out these fields easily by following the provided instructions.
Valid Reasons For Child Name Change in California Your childs name can be changed to the name of the person who raised the child instead of the biological parent. Older children, as they approach adulthood, may want the name theyve been using as their legal name, instead of the one on their birth certificate.
The process does require parent consent. If both parents agree to the change of name and live in the county where the change is sought, they may both file as petitioners.
Someone must file a legal name change request in court for a childs name, or for anyones name for that matter. The law does not recognize or accept any unofficial name changes. To start the process, someone must submit a petition for a name change in the county where the child resides.
Who Has the Right To Name a Child? Both parents have the right to be involved in the naming process. So, if a father wishes to change the childs name, he needs the mothers parental consent. The mother also has the right to name a child.
Luckily California understands that many beneficiaries may undergo a name change for whatever reason, and it shouldnt impact how the will is executed.
What is the Cost? The Applicant will be required to pay the $110.00 court cost deposit when the filing is made. The Applicant is responsible for pre-paying to the newspaper, the publishers cost for the Notice of Hearing.
A Step-by-Step Guide to Legal Name Change Step 1: Creating the Affidavit. An affidavit serves as the cornerstone of your name change process. Step 2: Newspaper Publication. The next step is to announce your name change publicly, and this is done through a newspaper publication. Step 3: Gazette Notification.
