The quote should include the scope of the project and cost estimate. In many cases, a contractor will come to your house to see the project in personfree of charge. Many contractors dont give quotes over the phone since its nearly impossible to provide a reasonable quote without fully assessing the project.
Contractor quotes, on the other hand, are legally binding (if accepted and signed) and are much more in-depth. Contractor quotes include the breakdown of services required and any exclusions, but they offer a more concrete timeline.
Estimates are usually free for small, simple jobs like painting a bathroom. A contractor will charge for an estimate for complicated, big projects that involve detailed designs and multiple plan revisions, such as building an addition to your home.
Can you change your mind after accepting a quote? Once a quote has been signed and accepted the quote cannot be changed without a formal agreement from both parties. This is usually done via a change proposal. If the quote is not yet signed changes can still be made without legal implications.
A quote tells your customers your terms of service and how much youll charge. If a customer accepts your quote, it becomes a legally binding contract. Preparing good quotes can have many advantages for your business.
There is no regulation saying how long quotes have to be honored. In essence, they are just estimates of how much it will cost to do a project and that the contractor is only obligated to meet that price expectation when a contract is signed. Most quotes have a line on them stating how long the quote is good for.
Once work begins, the contractor must stick to the quote that they gave you. If they need to make changes in the work and/or price, contractors need to put this in writing and communicate it to you. Only after you accept the changes may they legally proceed.
An estimate is typically not binding. An estimate is usually a non-binding approximation of the expected cost of a project based on available information. It is intended to give the client an idea of what the project may cost and help them decide whether or not to move forward with the project.
