If a listed driver on your policy moves out of your residence, you can generally remove them from your auto policy. Depending on the insurer, you may need to provide proof that they no longer live with you. If the person still lives with you, then your insurer may still require them to be listed on your policy.
Think of a certificate holder as a formal presentation of an entitys insurance, with the certificate holder listed in the space provided on the form. A certificate holder gains no rights or access to the insurance policy. However, an additional insured does.
All named insureds may make changes to the policy, but the one listed first or the first named insured usually holds primary responsibility.
There can be more than one named insured on a policy. For example, the business itself and the business owner may be named insureds. Or a business and its subsidiaries could be named insureds on the same policy.
Generally, you will be covered by their auto insurance policy even if you are not listed as a regular driver on the vehicle. This is called permissive use: the vehicle owner and the auto insurer are permitting you to drive the vehicle temporarily, so insurance coverage extends to you while using that vehicle.
For most kinds of insurance, carriers will usually change the named insured based on a request from the customer, provided there are no material changes in the scope of the operation.
An additional named insured will have the same rights as a Named Insured but typically wont be responsible for the premium. They will however be entitled to notice of policy changes and cancellations and will have the same coverage as the Named Insureds but share the policy limits.
