If it is obvious that a spelling mistake was made or if the name and surname have been inverted, the CRA agent may proceed with the correction over the phone. If the correction requested does not match the information found in our records, the CRA agent may still do the change.
You can advise the CRA by calling 1-800-959-8281 or 1-800-387-1193, by sending a letter, or a completed Request for the Canada Revenue Agency to Update Records form.
Change your return by mail For faster service, submit your request for changes electronically using Change My Return in My Account or ReFILE. If you have to make your adjustment request by mail, send the following to your tax centre: a completed Form T1-ADJ, T1 Adjustment Request.
Need to make a change to your return? use the change my return option found in My Account at .cra.gc.ca/myaccount, one of the CRAs secure online services; send a completed Form T1-ADJ, T1 Adjustment Request, to your tax centre; or. send a signed letter to your tax centre asking for an adjustment to your return.
Dont worry! You can still change your tax return by sending a request to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) after you have received your notice of assessment. Sign into My Account to make a change online. Select Change my return and make your request.
It is important to note that simply receiving a CRA reassessment does not mean that the agency believes you have committed tax fraud. Many reassessments are done for minor errors, such as a person entering information incorrectly on their tax return by accident. These typically dont result in any further action.
You may be entitled to a reimbursement and ongoing support; its possible that your tax preparer may be obligated to pay for the interest and penalties accrued and will offer advice on dealing with the CRA. However, its not likely they will pay for any extra taxes you owe.
Once you realize youve made an error, youll probably want to refile your taxes or file an amendment ASAP. But as a general rule, wait until you receive your Notice of Assessment (NOA) from the CRA. You can refile up to 4 years or file an amendment for up to 10 years.
