Complete your online request for a waiver at the Aetna Student Health online waiver request system. All requests for a waiver must be completed online by the registered student. Make sure you have all of the required information before beginning – data cannot be saved from session to session.
UC SHIP is a self-funded, comprehensive health insurance program for registered UCI undergraduate and graduate students that is underwritten and administered by the Regents of the University of California. The plan includes medical, behavioral health, pharmacy, dental and vision benefits.
To waive (opt-out) of UC SHIP coverage, the student must upload evidence of comparable health coverage into our secure waiver portal AND receive confirmation that their waiver was accepted. Email confirmation that the waiver was approved will be sent to the student's UCSB email account.
Students can check status of their application at any time by signing into Academic Health Plans (AHP) Waiver System. It is the student's responsibility to monitor their waiver application status.
