For example, after periods of scandal, many organizations review their code of ethics to update and clarify their stance on behavior. However, every one to two years is a reasonable frame of reference for reviewing the code of ethics.
There are five ethical principles in the American Psychological Association (APA) Code of ethics. The five principles are- Beneficence Nonmaleficence, Fidelity Responsibility, Integrity, Justice, and Respect for Peoples Rights Dignity.
The five ethical principles that inform our work as student life professionals are 1) Autonomy, 2) Prevent Harm, 3) Do Good, 4) Justice, and 5) Fidelity.
Ethical standards do not remain fixed; they transform in response to evolving situations. Over time, people change, technology advances, and cultural mores (i.e., acquired culture and manners) shift.
APAs Ethics Code mandates that psychologists who conduct research should inform participants about: The purpose of the research, expected duration and procedures. Participants rights to decline to participate and to withdraw from the research once it has started, as well as the anticipated consequences of doing so.
APAs Ethical Codes: The Five Ethical Principles Principle A: Beneficence and Non-Maleficence. Principle B: Fidelity and Responsibility. Principle C: Integrity. Principle D: Justice. Principle E: Respect for Peoples Rights and Dignity.
As times change, so do ethics. Ethics codes need to be regularly refreshed to address contemporary issues facing association memberswhich today include complex subjects like harassment, bullying, racial injustice, cybersecurity, social media, and a host of other current conditions.
It is divided into three sections, and is underpinned by the five fundamental principles of Integrity, Objectivity, Professional competence and due care, Confidentiality, and Professional behaviour.
