whenever you try to change the color by making a quick selection it comes with a lot of flaws first it leaves gaps its not accurate and a good selection would take a ton of time secondly when you try to change the color to white or black it literally becomes a blob the trick is using targeting create a hue saturation adjustment layer click on the hand icon inside of hue saturation and sample the color of the object take the hue and the saturation all the way to the right adjust the range to target the color of the object then bring the hue and the saturation back to normal now you can precisely change the color or saturation to whatever you want and heres the great part you can even change the lightness now realistically to change the color to black or white to make sure other areas arent affected i recommend creating a rough mask of the object
