Hi this is Travis with POSGuys.com. Today were going to take a look at EMV liability and how it is shifting after October 1st, 2015. Right now with card present transactions typically you have a mag stripe, a mag stripe reader, and the liability is on the credit card company. If you have a mag stripe card, a chip reader, it is still on the credit card company. After October 1st however there is a big change that happens. The chips that are on the cards will now have to be read by a chip reader. If you choose to use a mag stripe reader instead with a chip card, now the liability is on the merchant rather than on the credit card company. In order to keep liability on the credit card company you have to take a chip card and a chip reader. If the card only has a mag stripe and there is no chip with it then you can continue to use mag stripe and the liability will be on the credit card company. So what you are looking for is the chip. Chip card, mag stripe reader, liability is on you. How
