- So when youre getting a recommendation letter, it needs to be from an academic teacher. So those are core subjects: History, Science, Math, Social Studies, Languages. When you have a recommendation from a theater teacher, director, or band leader, those are helpful, but theyre not what were looking for in an academic-required teacher recommendation. - I always encourage students to docHub out to the teachers that know them best. Not the teachers that gave them the highest grade, although those might be the same people. But a teacher that knows you well is a great place to start. - Often times for teachers, its going to be teachers in their most recent years. Their junior and/or senior year. These teachers can usually include specific examples or anecdotes about their intellectual curiosity or their participation in the classroom. - And its always wonderful if its at all possible to get that full range. If the typos must be corrected, then I would ask the professor to re-write the letter. Its your professors letter, not your letter, so of course they want to phrase things the way they see as best.
You cannot ethically change your recommendation without first discussing it with the student. So, if you decide to make a change, please arrange to talk with the student. The student presumably has or will pay the appropriate penalty at your institution.
Can letters of recommendation still be uploaded after the application is finalized? Yes.
If you need to make changes to a submitted recommendation, you can do so only if the applicant has not submitted their final application to their school. If the applicant has submitted their final application, the school has already received the recommendation and changes cannot be made.
If you still work regularly with a previous letter writer, its a good idea to request an update. For example, say youve continued to work hard in a lab for the past 2 years and have recently added two new publications and a presentation.
Avoid beginning your letter with To Whom It May Concern. Address your letter to a real person. If you cannot find that persons name, send a professional recommendation to the Hiring Manager and an academic recommendation to the Admissions Committee or Program Director. Also avoid listing all your credentials.
If a recommender has already started the process of providing a recommendation, you cannot remove or edit that recommender.
