Captioning helps a great deal of your audience, whether its deaf or hard-of-hearing audience members, whether its people who are in a loud environment and cant have the sound on, whether its people who dont wanna disturb their roommates, or whether its someone whos maybe has English as a second language, and they wanna read the text as it comes by in the audio. Captions help a great deal of your audience, maybe beyond who you thought it might help. Some definitions. Closed captions are captions that are closed by default. Theyre actually metadata that goes along with the video stream thats then rendered in the video player or on the viewers television, and so thats something where theres a button in the player or a remote control button on their TV to turn the captions on and make them visible. Open captions are permanently part of the video stream itself.
