Some solutions include larger turbos, water injection, and aftermarket intercoolers, but these tend to be very expensive upgrades. Manta Performance can lower your EGTs without costing you a fortune! A Manta Performance exhaust system is a great way to lower your vehicles EGTs and improve its performance.
How Hot Is Too Hot? Based on our own experience in the sled pulling and drag racing world, we can definitely say that any engine running at 1,800 to 2,000 degrees EGT for more than a second or two should be rebuilt every season and may incur turbocharger, cylinder head, or piston damage during the season.
Therefore, the exhaust gas temperature should be controlled below 135℃. If the exhaust gas temperature is too high, the lubricating oil may be carbonized and deteriorated and the lubricating performance will be reduced.
Diesel engine exhaust gases vary with speed and load. High loads and high speeds result in the highest temperatures. Generally, temperatures of 500700C (9321293F) are produced in the exhaust gases from diesel-cycle engines at 100% load to 200300C (392572F) with no load.
Temperatures in a normal car exhaust pipe range from 400 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. However, several high-performance exhaust pipes can docHub temperatures of 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit or more. The gases are at their hottest point while exiting the engine and entering the exhaust system.
Best DPI setting You do want to avoid playing at too high of a DPI, anything past 12000 is likely excessive, but more importantly, some sensors at this DPI accelerate and emulate the dots per inch, causing inconsistencies, its not a true raw DPI.
Commonly, diesel performance enthusiasts will ask: Whats a safe EGT? The short answer is anything sustained below 1350 degrees Fahrenheit is acceptable by most OEM standards so long as your other engine temperatures remain within safe boundaries.
Generally speaking, the lower your EGT, the better. At Manta Performance, we recommend that your EGT stay under 550C (as measured at the turbo outlet) to assure your engines safety. What happens when your EGT gets too high? Nothing good!
Once the DPF docHubes approximately 840 F (450 C), the High Exhaust System Temperature (HEST) Lamp illuminates. When regeneration is complete, the engine returns to idle. If any of the above conditions change, manual regeneration deactivates and the engine returns to idle.
