A powerlifting score is also referred to as a total. The total is the sum of the heaviest weight lifted for the squat, bench press, and deadlift. For example, if a lifter squatted 180kg, bench pressed 120kg, and deadlift 200kg their total would be 500kg. This total is whats used to rank lifters from first to last.
Competitive Powerlifting All competitors are divided into categories based on their age, gender, and body weight. The winner of a category is the lifter with the highest total weight (sum of the best of each of the three lifts) with any ties going to the competitor with the lower body weight.
There is usually one warning, but disqualification can be immediate at the Chief Referees discretion.
The general rule of thumb is to select an opening attempt that you can do for 3 reps (90-92% of your 1RM). Your second attempt should be heavy enough to give you an evaluation of what your max capacity is (96-98% of your 1RM). Your third attempt should be your max capacity (101-103% of your 1RM).
Commands: the bench press has 3 commands, start, press and rack which is more than those given during the squat and deadlift. These commands can vary in duration from meet to meet, depending on the referee and the lifter. If ill prepared, this amount of variability can work against the lifter.
The technical changes themselves are as follows: During the setup on the bench, the athlete is not allowed to place his or her feet on the bench. The lifter must lower the bar to the chest or abdominal area whereby the underside of the elbow joint is level with (or below) the top of the shoulder joint.
There are two types of powerlifting that you can do in competition: raw (or classic) and equipped. The difference between raw and equipped powerlifting are the kinds of equipment that you are allowed to wear.
These lights indicate a good lift (white lights) or not a good lift (red lights). In order for a lift to count, you must have 2 out of 3 white lights.
If you wear a certain type of shoe to squat in while training, you should wear the same shoe during the competition. Changing equipment of any kind can drastically change your technique.
