Prepping to Live Full-Time in an RV over the Winter Keep Your RV Stationary. Protect Exposed RV Parts. Keep Your Water Supply Safe. Get a Proper Indoor Heat Source. Follow Safe Driving Practices for the Winter. Plug in to Electric When Possible. Plan Ahead.
Approximately 98% of national park campgrounds can accommodate RVs up to 19 feet long. You still have a good selection if your RV is smaller than 25 feet more than 90% of parks permit that length. The number of available campsites drops if your RV is 29 to 32 feet long since about 80% of parks will let you in.
Since an aging RV can be both an eyesore and a safety/environmental hazard, park owners are within their rights to prohibit vehicles older than 10 years. Park owners also worry about recouping their costs after an eviction should a tenant stop paying after a few days or months.
Each RV park and resort has its own unique set of rules and regulations governing guest stays. While some may allow indefinite stays, others impose maximum limits that typically range from two weeks to six months.
The 10-year rule is something you find with some RV parks and especially resorts where they prohibit any RV which is older than 10 years old. In some cases, you may find the cut-off being 15 years.
How well did the previous owner maintain the vehicle? Outside of where you can camp with it, what makes and RV too old is more about the condition than the actual age of the vehicle. A vehicle that is 15 years old but well maintained can make a better investment than a 5-year-old vehicle that has been well abused.
There are some seasonal campgrounds that allow year-round residency. These campgrounds often have more permanent facilities, such as full hookups, shower houses, and laundry facilities. They may also have restrictions on the length of time residents can stay, such as limiting stays to six months out of the year.
Living in your RV full-time either a motorhome or a travel trailer as your permanent residence is easier than ever. But it does take planning, research, and an adventurous spirit.
