[Music] hey everybody welcome back to another episode we got a question last week and it came into my email and i thought huh that is a good question because the answer has actually changed over time 10 years ago i would have said yes this thing should definitely be on your resume and now i'm not quite sure anymore and that thing that we're talking about is your physical address or mailing address today we're going to be talking about whether you should be putting your address on your resume i'm here with my co-host dave hey everyone so it just doesn't matter anymore you know your physical address is actually a liability for the company they don't need to know this it can introduce bias there's a lot of things that you know city uh i think is about the level of resolution you need you could decide you know how granular you want to get if you are in a place like new york if you want to say new york city or you want to say brooklyn you could do that but that's really as high resolution...

you might wonder if you still need to put your full street address on a resume. The short answer: No. However, its still a good idea to list your location on a resume, meaning your city, state, and zip code or the metropolitan area where you live (i.e. New York Metropolitan Area).
You can either mention the fact that you are moving at the beginning of the cover letter or closer to the end. But either way, a statement that addresses your interest in the job itself should precede any reference to the fact that youre relocating.
You cant hide a two-year employment gap, but you can emphasize how you benefited during those 24 months, demonstrating how those benefits will transfer to your next job. Frame your time off so you emphasize what you did do -- not what you didnt.
Should you put your address on your resume? Its optional. In certain situations, including it could be helpful, but leaving it out wont get you rejected. Put the city and zip code of the employer in your professional summary if youre really concerned about being rejected by the ATS.
4 Must-Dos For Your Relocation Cover Letter Explain why you are moving. Theres a big difference between applying for a far-flung job and actually packing up your belongings and moving to that new town. Give a date or time frame. Explain how you can interview. Put an in-person visit on the table.
Include your full mailing address (street address, city, state, and zip code) instead of just the city and the state. In case you have privacy concerns, its perfectly alright if you do not include address on resume; instead, just write the city/state.
Im happy to consider relocating if the jobs a good fit. If theres also an opportunity to work remotely or out of the office in [current location] Id love to discuss that as well, as that would work best for my current situation because [reason].
These are all good sample reasons for having a gap in employment: Caring for a sick family member. Caring for a young child. Any medical or health issue. Taking time off to relocate and find a job in a new state/city. Pursuing further education or going back to school. Pursuing any other type of professional training.
If you are sending your resume directly to the hiring manager or a representative of the company, keep your physical address. If you are unsure who you are submitting your resume to (such as on job boards), remove it for security reasons.
List them as you would your other jobs, including job title, company name, job description, and employment dates. If you took a class, include it in the education section of your rsum. By filling the employment gap, youll show recruiters that you are proactive and resilient.
