If you file more than one type of information return on paper -- for example, 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, 1099-K, etc. -- you must prepare a separate Form 1096 for each type of information return. Form 1096 is not required for filing electronically.

Its not too hard to amend a 1099. You just need to fill out a corrected one and include that copy as well as a new form 1096 when you mail them out. Specifically, you should put a checkmark in the corrected box on the top of form 1099. This will let the IRS know that the firm has been corrected.
You can choose to create a journal entry to move amounts to show in the newly created 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC accounts or you can edit existing payments to the new accounts. Select New +, then select Journal Entry. Fill out the fields to create your journal entry. Select Save and new or Save and close.
If there is a mistake, call the client immediately and request a corrected Form 1099. The client may not have filed the 1099 with the IRS yet, because they are not due until February 28th (March 31st if filed electronically). If the 1099 has been filed with the IRS, ask the client to send the IRS a corrected 1099.
1099- Account mapping Go to the Vendors tab, then click on Vendor Center. Tap on the vendors name. Go to the Tax Settings section, then mark the box beside the Vendor eligible for 1099 section. Hit OK. Repeat the steps for other vendors that are eligible for 1099.
Differences between 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC As of 2020, the 1099-NEC form is for all independent contractor income. The 1099-MISC is still a valid form. However, it is reserved for payments that fall outside of contractor or freelancer wages, such as rent or attorneys fees.
