hello spark fans and welcome back to advancing spark where today were having a short video i promise it will be short about unity catalog and external tables so if you have lakes outside of your meta store so when you created your unity catalog you hook it up to an adls gen 2 lake it has a lake sitting behind it and you say oh ive got some data actually sitting in other lakes now you can either set up multiple different meta stores or you can create an external table you can say well actually this database or this table is looking at data over in this separate storage location and thats a really common thing that weve done for ages with mounting and data bricks its just a super common thing to do maybe youve got different regions youve got different business functions theyve got their own lakes and rather than have it all together in a single meta store you want to say i just want to expose all the data thats on all these different places to the people using my meta store so
