To receive the cancel, mail your envelopes or covers, stamped with return postage, inside a stamped envelope. Address the envelope to the attention of the "Postmaster" with the full name and address of the post office that offers the cancel. Receive your cancelled envelope or cover by return mail. Happy collecting!
§ 479.163 Reuse of stamps prohibited. A stamp once affixed to one document cannot lawfully be removed and affixed to another. Any person willfully reusing such a stamp shall be subject to the penalty prescribed by 26 U.S.C. 7208.
Then there's no way of telling. Technically speaking yes - it is considered fraudulent (and illegal) to re-use stamps, as stamped mail is protected by the Crown. In reality though, unless you are using the tamper-proof stamps, with the perforations, it's very difficult to detect when a stamp has been reused.
A cancellation (or cancel for short; French: oblitération) is a postal marking applied on a postage stamp or postal stationery to deface the stamp and to prevent its reuse. Cancellations come in a huge variety of designs, shapes, sizes, and colors.
You can't. Cancellations were done with a special ink which could not be washed off, to prevent people trying to use the stamps again. Any chemical which will bleach the cancellation will also do the same to the inks with which the stamp was printed, thereby ruining it.
If the envelope the stamps are on was never mailed, then the stamps are genuinely unused, and can be removed from that envelope and put on another one for mailing.
Look at the stamp. There will be a printed mark that has some part of it which crosses the stamp. That is called a post mark or cancellation.
Look for a cancellation mark. If a stamp has been used, it will be stamped with a cancellation mark over the design. The heavier the cancellation mark, the lower the value of your stamp; you want to make sure it doesn't blot or cover the stamp's design.
, is a stamp the issuing postal service has cancelled (marked as used), but has not traveled through the post, but instead gets handed back to a stamp collector or dealer.
Cancelled stamps do have value but it is usually far less than stamps without cancellation marks on them. The value attached to a cancelled stamp will depend on the stamp's rarity and desirability for collecting. Generally, the heavier the cancellation mark, the lower the stamp's value and it will get a "poor" grade.
