You can adjust your W-4 at any time during the year. Just remember, adjustments made later in the year will have less impact on your taxes for that year.

If you realize there was a mistake on your return, you can amend it using Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return. For example, a change to your filing status, income, deductions, credits, or tax liability means you need to amend your return.
Filling the W-4 form out incorrectly can trigger an IRS penalty for underpayment (TRUE). Your employer will use the information you provide on Form W-4 to determine the amount of Federal income tax to withhold from your pay.
First, use the withholding calculator to fill out Form W-4 so you dont get a refund or owe any taxes. Next, youll want to adjust line 4(c), called Extra withholding, which adds additional withholding to each paycheck you receive.
