In the last video, we learned how to create an AMI from an existing EC2 instance and spin up new instances using that AMI. In this video, we will focus on removing the AMI you have created. This is useful when you want to delete unnecessary AMIs from your account. Start by terminating the EC2 instance used to create the image. Once terminated, the corresponding volumes should also be deleted. Check the volumes section to confirm. Next, go to snapshots, as EBS creates snapshots for each volume used to create the AMI. Try deleting the snapshots to clean up unwanted AMIs.

How do I delete an AMI photo?

In the navigation pane, choose Snapshots. Select a snapshot to delete (look for the AMI ID from the prior step in the Description column). Choose Actions, Delete snapshot. When prompted for confirmation, choose Delete.

Does an AMI need a snapshot?

A snapshot is of an EBS volume where you are able to save state and reboot with the same data at a certain point in time. An AMI is similar, but it's for the EC2 instances themselves. You cannot take a snapshot of a non-ebs backed instance, but you can create an AMI (system image) of one.

How do I delete an AMI image?

In the navigation pane, choose Snapshots. Select a snapshot to delete (look for the AMI ID from the prior step in the Description column). Choose Actions, Delete snapshot. When prompted for confirmation, choose Delete.

How do I change an existing instance of AMI?

Update AMI Navigate to AWS Console –> Services –> EC2 –> Auto Scaling –> Launch Configurations. Select a LC –> Copy launch configuration. Click Edit AMI. Click Create launch configuration.

Can AMI be changed?

You cannot update the AMI on your current instance. You should create a new instance with the CentOS AMI.

Can we delete snapshot of AMI?

You can't delete a snapshot of the root device of an EBS volume used by a registered AMI. You must first deregister the AMI before you can delete the snapshot. For more information, see Deregister your AMI. You can't delete a snapshot that is managed by the AWS Backup service using Amazon EC2.

Where are AMI images stored?

With Amazon EC2 instance store-backed AMIs, each time you customize an AMI and create a new one, all of the parts are stored in Amazon S3 for each AMI.

How do I edit an instance?

Click the instance ID of the instance you want to edit. On the Instance details page, click Edit to go to the Edit instance page. Change the instance description, IP-based access control rules, and capacity as needed. For details, see Creating instances.

Can we delete snapshot in AWS?

The snapshot is owned and shared by a different AWS account You can't delete a snapshot from your account that another account owns and shares with your account. If you have access to the account that owns the snapshot, then you can delete it.

How do I Delete images from AWS?

To delete an image (AWS Management Console) In the navigation pane, choose Repositories. On the Repositories page, choose the repository that contains the image to delete. On the Repositories: repository_name page, select the box to the left of the image to delete and choose Delete.
