so when were building our resumes one of the most frustrating areas is formatting like keeping things formatted consistently all throughout our document on Microsoft Word and in particular where this is really frustrating is when were trying to make sure content is aligned with the margin what Im going to cover here is aligning the date range is perfectly every time with the right-hand margin which is where the date ranges should be on a resume so this is a resume for a teacher and we want to have the date ranges all the way on the right-hand side and so we want to also make sure that every date range is perfectly aligned on them on the margin consistently every single time so what were gonna do is were gonna go over to this area right here in the top left hand corner of the of our screen and word and this L here were gonna click it until it becomes a backwards L and if you hover over it it says write tab so what we also want to do with this backwards L is we want to put it on ou

Generally you should list your work experience in reverse chronological order and add only months and years of your time on the job. Employment dates expressed in years only is also acceptable and beneficial, if you have short gaps in employment, or if you were at a certain job for an extended period of time.
Unless the job calls for a huge amount of experience, most coaches recommend including the last 10 to 15 years of your work history, with dates, on your resume. Anything older than that can be kept off the resume.
Dont Fudge the End Date If your job is officially over, resist the urge to keep the position listed as to present on your resume, giving the impression that youre still employed. The job termination will eventually come to light and hiring managers might think you tried to mislead them.
Omitting dates from a resume is usually done by choosing the functional style resume. Using a functional resume to hide employment dates has been used by thousands of job switchers, and those with big employment gaps.
You should generally include dates on your resume. Traditionally, resumes list work experience in reverse chronological order and use months and years to show the time worked in each role.
Is leaving dates off a resume ever OK? Leaving dates off of some older jobs on your resume is generally an acceptable practice to avoid age discrimination. My rule of thumb is that if the professional experience or education happened more than 15 to 20 years ago, lose the date.
When to update your resume and resend it. This is usually the best option; you can simply say that you caught a small mistake on your resume and wanted to send a corrected version.
Leaving small jobs off a resume is fine when they dont add anything to the new position, but if the skills and experience align with the new job, include them on your resume. Remember this applies to both hard and soft skills, dont overlook the value of teamwork, leadership or adherence to deadlines.
