One way to make text thicker is by using the Stroke layer effect. To do this, simply select the layer that contains your text and then go to Layer Layer Style Stroke. From here, you can adjust the stroke width and color to your liking.
To make text bold in Photoshop, simply select the text by clicking and dragging across the text to highlight it. The next step is to click on the A icon or Character settings option in the right menu bar, then select Faux bold. Do the same for other words in your text that you want to appear bold.
The faux bold option is listed at the bottom of the character panel. With the text tool active, double-click on the text layer thumbnail, then hit CTRL+T, this will pop up the character panel, the faux bold is the first button on the row of icons at the bottom of the panel.
Highlight the text you want to edit, then look to the Character panel or Type toolbar. Find the text format dropdown menu (it usually defaults to Regular) and select it, then choose either Bold or Italic to change the highlighted text.
Highlight the text, select More in the character palette menu, then select Faux Bold or Faux Italic. Uncheck Faux Bold and Faux Italic when youre done and avoid further altering the text.
Type the keyboard shortcut: CTRL+B.
Faux bold is made by slightly stretching the vertical strokes of the original font. In the image below, Ive used Droid Sans Bold, which has consistent strokes. Yet in the faux bold, the vertical strokes are a little thicker than the horizontal strokes.
