Use a business letter format using a twelve point font size in either Arial or Times New Roman. Write your letter on your business or organization letterhead if possible. The recipient likely reads dozens if not hundreds of letters, so keep yours concise and to the point.
Font: Use a traditional font such as Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri. The font size should be between 10 and 12 points so its easy to read. Adjusting the font size is a good way to keep your letter to a single page.
Font Acceptable fonts are Times New Roman, 12 pt. or Courier New, 12 pt. in the upper half of the page. Margins: All margins top, bottom, left, and right are set to 1 throughout the paper.
For all text (including tables and the reference list), authors should use a serif typeface, because it improves readability. The preferred font is Times New Roman, 12 point. For any text in figures, authors should use a sans serif typeface, because the clean and simple lines enhance the figures visual presentation.
ERAS Letter of Recommendation Sample Another point is font. Elegant and curve styles may look flashy and attractive. However, it does not look professional. Remember that for letters of recommendation ERAS prefers using Times New Roman or Arial font of 10pt.
Reference list formatting. No specific font type or size required. Recommendations include Calibri size 11, Arial size 11, Lucida size 10, Times New Roman size 12, Georgia size 11 or Computer Modern size 10 (LaTeX). The reference list is double spaced (between each reference AND within the reference).
The letter should be about one page in length and generally consist of three parts: opening, body, and closing. The writer should explain the relationship between himself/herself and the candidate as well as why the letter is being written.
