in this video were going to be taking channel packing to the next level lets go channel packing means placing multiple grayscale texture images together in the channels of a single texture we do this to reduce the total number of textures sampled in the shader and to reduce the texture memory we use in this video im assuming you already know how to do that if you dont know the basics ive linked a great video series in the description so go ahead and take a look at those videos first so using standard channel packing we end up with a set of three textures that look like this we have our color texture our normal map and a mask texture with three or four masks all packed together thats pretty efficient right we only have three textures with as many as seven maps all packed up so here we have our color texture with optional opacity we have our normal map with xyz and were not using the alpha channel of the normal map and then in our map in our mask texture we have our ambient occlu
