with my text selected and using the good old myriad pro i can make my text italic or bold using this font style drop down list look at all these great options built into this font lets now switch to a simpler font such as wire one basic options like bold or italic are not even available but can we this from the window menu open up the character panel this collection of buttons is the same as that found in the type options section of the properties panel with two sneaky exceptions faux bold and faux italic as great as these options might seem use them with caution you could have some text problems if you are exporting this out for professional printing and trying to keep the text live also if i create a new document these options are still active potentially extremely problematic so be sure to turn them off when youve finished with them i hope that helps catch you later
