Light and airy photos are bright, light, and generally feature soft, pastel-colored subjects. By contrast, dark and moody photos are just that: lots of dark areas, images with deep shadows, rich colors, and lots of drama. Heres a light and airy photo from early in Allison and Magnus wedding day.
The Dark and Moody style usually looks great in spreads, with images displayed side by side in a storytelling format. Consistent lighting, editing, and storytelling, combined with this style of wedding photography, make these images perfect for album and wall art.
Professional photographers take pictures in whats called RAW file format. These end up being really large files that are most suitable for photo editing (because they retain a lot more image detail), but not good for much else.
Photojournalistic. Candid and documentary-style photographs make for some of the most heartfelt and memorable images, which is why many photographers have adopted a photojournalistic style. These photographers treat the wedding day almost like a feature or news story.
Heres a list of adjectives to help you put words to what youre envisioning for your wedding photos: moody, artistic, light, airy, bright, colorful, muted, warm, clean, timeless, classic, film look, cinematic, editorial, photojournalistic, candid, posed.
Use Prime Lenses We suggest you use prime lenses in low light situations. Prime lenses have wider apertures, allowing more light into the cameras sensor. This doesnt mean that you should only shoot with prime lenses in dark wedding venues like a church, but if you are struggling to find light, a prime lens can help.
Light Airy Photography Style This is done in both camera and post production. This can create softer and often more flattering wedding, bridal and engagement photography portraits as fewer shadows also reveal fewer blemishes. Colors in light and airy photos typically fall on the lighter and more neutral side.
