Bolding of select words and phrases helps with scanning, but you dont want to go overboard. So choose what to bold wisely, depending on the message you want to send. If your job titles effectively illustrate your path to management-level roles, bolding those might make the most sense.
Use bold fonts sparingly, and only to highlight key items such as the names of companies, job titles, or degrees.
Bold text. Bold text, sometimes referred to as emphasized text, should only be used to convey information labels and should always be paired with a colon (:).
Use bold for emphasis and quick reading. Hiring managers will be skimming the letter, so anything you can do to make your qualifications stand out will help focus their attention on you. Use a default font that is easy to read, such as Times New Roman, Arial, or Tahoma.
Writing a Stand-Out Cover Letter Start fresh for each position youre applying to. Address your letter to a real person. Adopt a positive mindset. Grab attention with your opening line. Explain why youre the best candidate. Show them why you want THIS job. Finish strong. Sit on it.
Put your name in bold and or larger font to let employers immediately know who you are. Include the date you are submitting the letter. Address the letter to the contact person/department/company from the job posting.
Analyze the job advertisement or job description to identify and define the employers key-need words. Prioritize and use these words in the employers order of importance or presentation. Utilize the key-need in your cover letter and highlight them by using all-caps and bolding or underlining.
It should look professional: Dont bold, underline or italicize anything that is not consistent with good English grammar. Be relevant. Focus on what you can do for the company, not what the company can do for you. Dont overuse I. Your cover letter isnt your autobiography.
