The short version of the Anterior Cruciate LigamentReturn to Sport After Injury (ACL-RSI) scale is a self-reported questionnaire developed to assess the psychological readiness of patients to return to sports after ACL reconstruction (ACLR).
Readiness for sport was based on criteria for the ACL-RSI scale score (low threshold, 56 points or greater; high threshold, 75 points or greater) and hop tests (90% or greater limb symmetry).
ACL-RSI. Name. Do you think you are likely to re-injury your knee by participating in your sport? Are you nervous about playing your sport? Are you confident that your knee will not give way by playing your sport? Are you confident that you could play your sport without concern for your knee?
The Lachman test is a specific clinical exam technique used to evaluate patients with a suspected anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The test relies on proper positioning and technique and is regarded as the most sensitive and specific test for diagnosing acute ACL injuries.
The anterior Lachman test, anterior drawer test and the pivot shift test, which are summarised in Table 1, are the most commonly known physical tests used to assess the integrity of the ACL (Benjaminse 2006; Leblanc 2015; Malanga 2003; Scholten 2003; Solomon 2001).
The ACL-RSI is a unidimensional 12-item scale that measures 3 types of responses believed to be associated with the resumption of sport following athletic injury: emotions (5 items), confidence in performance (5 items), and risk appraisal (2 items).
The most common provocative maneuvers used for assessing the ACL are the Lachman, anterior drawer, and pivot shift tests. With all three testing maneuvers, it is extremely important to compare the injured knee to the contralateral side. The Lachman test is considered the most reliable test for assessing an ACL injury.
