For a long time, the printing industry recognized five major processes. These are grouped in to; relief printing (letterpress, flexography), planographic printing (offset lithography), recess printing (gravure/intaglio), stencil printing (screen) and digital printing (toner and inkjet).
The screen is lowered down onto the printing board. Ink is added to the top end of the screen, and a squeegee is used to pull the ink along the full length of the screen. This presses the ink through the open areas of the stencil, imprinting the design on the product underneath.
Steps of the printing process Prepress operations include composition and typesetting, graphic arts photography, image assembly, and image carrier preparation. Press refers to actual printing operations. Postpress primarily involves the assembly of printed materials and consists of binding and finishing operations.
Below is the screen printing process step by step: Design Creation. The first step in the process of screen printing is to create the design. Selecting and Preparing the Screen. Exposing the Emulsion. Stencil Creation. Preparation for Print. Applying the Design. Heat Curing Finishing.
The basic process of screen printing involves creating a stencil on a mesh screen and then pushing the ink to create and imprint the design on the below surface. The most common surface used in screen printing is paper and fabric, but metal, wood, and plastic can also be used.
All-Over-Print or AOP is a garment printing technique that covers one entire side of the garment. For example, a shirt is printed with screens of 40x36. This size is as big as the front shield window of a truck.
Some brands like to live large (literally). Jumbo screen printing is a type of large-format screen printing that allows you to print your design at a 1722 inch size. Thats nearly four times the size of a standard design!
Screen printing is a printing technique where a mesh is used to transfer ink (or dye) onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil.
