In general, there are three main graft options: a patellar tendon autograft, a hamstring autograft, and an allograft. An autograft comes from the patient's own body, whereas an allograft comes from a cadaver donor.
Femoral insertion The femoral footprint of the insertion of the ACL is crescent shaped. Its anterior border is formed by the lateral intercondylar ridge (resident's ridge). The posterior articular margin of the lateral femoral condyle forms its posterior border.
There are four commonly used grafts for ACL reconstruction. Patellar tendon autograft. The surgeon removes the middle third of your patellar tendon and pieces of bone (bone plugs) from your shin and kneecap. ... Hamstring tendon autograft. ... Quadriceps tendon autograft. ... Allograft.
Single leg hop for distance. Stand on one limb and hop as far forward as possible, landing on the same limb. ... Single leg 6 m timed hop. Perform large one-legged hops in series over 6 metres. ( ... Triple hop for distance. Perform 3 successive hops as far as possible and land on the same leg. ... Crossover hop for distance.
Types of ACL Surgery Autograft. Your doctor uses a tendon from somewhere else in your body (like your other knee, hamstring, or thigh). Allograft. This type of graft uses tissue from someone else (a deceased donor). Synthetic graft. This is when artificial materials replace the tendon.
There are two main options for grafts - autograft and allograft. Autograft requires taking tendon from another location in your own body (termed harvesting) and moving it to replace the ACL. Allograft, also called donor graft or cadaver graft, is tendon from someone who has donated their tissue.
The anterior cruciate ligament originates at the medial wall of the lateral femoral condyle and inserts into the middle of the intercondylar area. It contributes significantly to the stabilization and kinematics of the knee joint.
The most commonly used grafts for ACLR include hamstring tendon autografts, bone–patellar tendon–bone autografts, quadriceps tendon autografts, allografts and synthetic grafts.
The patellar tendon graft (PTG) has always been the gold standard for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Yet, most orthopedic surgeons prefer hamstring grafts for younger athletes and cadaver grafts for older patients.
Donor site problems have led to search of allografts. The commonly used allografts for ACL reconstruction are BPTB grafts, HS grafts, tibial is posterior/anterior and tendo achilles grafts.
