If only certain words or characters need to be affected, use the Type Tool to highlight the text. Open the Properties Panel . You'll see controls for Weight , Width and Slant . Weight lets you adjust the boldness of the text.
The faux bold option is listed at the bottom of the character panel. With the text tool active, double-click on the text layer thumbnail, then hit CTRL+T, this will pop up the character panel, the faux bold is the first button on the row of icons at the bottom of the panel.

Highlight the text you want to edit, then look to the Character panel or Type toolbar. Find the text format dropdown menu (it usually defaults to "Regular") and select it, then choose either Bold or Italic to change the highlighted text.
Choose the words you wish to make bold and then highlight them with your cursor. The font style dropdown menu is available in the Type toolbar or the Character panel. The default on the dropdown should say Regular, and once clicked it should give you options for different styles. Choose the Bold style in the dropdown.
Adding A Line. Adding a line to your font is the easiest way to add width to a font that doesn't offer a bold option. By adding a line, you will be able to achieve a bold look for both print, and cut. You can also use the adding a line method to cut out your thicker lettering.
