2. Bold. While bold fonts are mostly used for headings and subheadings in formal documents, they are used for emphasis online and in informal writing.
Bold text, sometimes referred to as emphasized text, should only be used to convey information labels and should always be paired with a colon (:). Bold may also be used to label a topic within a table or chart without a colon as long as no other non-bold words follow the words which are in bold.
Bold font tends to be used much less frequently than italic font in scholarly writing, but it can be used for some of the same purposes as italics are.
But in order to preserve impact, use bold words sparingly. Its tempting to use bold type to emphasize the important parts of your copy. But if youre writing concisely (which of course you are!), then everything youre writing should already be important. This often leads to over-bolding.
Bold is one of the most common weights of a typeface, always with a heavier stroke than the regular/upright version. Bold is commonly used for emphasis.
To display text in italics using HTML, place the desired text within the More HTML Font Styles - Bold/Italic Codes. Bold(More details)Italics(More details)Underline(More details)Strike-through(More details)Teletype(More details)2 more rows
I see no reason to use either Bold or Underlining in your essays. Avoid gimmicky formatting, such as ALL CAPS, emojis or #hashtags. Avoid titles.
To make text bold, select and highlight the text first. Then hold down Ctrl (the control key) on the keyboard and press B on the keyboard.
