This can give a good impression that you pay attention to details, matters of appearance and tradition. If the paper has a watermark you need to make sure it is only visible when held up to a light so it doesnt distract the reader.
Unless youre using icons to draw attention to specific information or make your resume easier to read, its best to skip them. The biggest reason not to use resume icons is because they can cause issues with applicant tracking systems (ATSs) that most companies use to screen resumes and sort job applicants.
Sometimes, you can put a logo on your resume instead of a photo (which should also be used carefully). This is especially true if youre building your personal brand or if youre known for a product/service/brand youve created.
Bolding of select words and phrases helps with scanning, but you dont want to go overboard. So choose what to bold wisely, depending on the message you want to send. If your job titles effectively illustrate your path to management-level roles, bolding those might make the most sense.
Put job-critical resume certifications in four places, such as in your personal information section, in your resume summary, in your education section, or in a designated certification section. Always make your most noteworthy or relevant certifications visible and attention-grabbing.
If they serve a purpose and make your resume easier to navigate and read, then it could be a good idea to use icons on your resume. For example, icons can make your contact info stand out, which is good! says Muse career coach Jennifer Smith, a former recruiter and founder of Flourish Careers.
When it comes to including pictures on resumes, youll find that HR professionals and professional resume writers agree that a resume should not include a photograph. There are exceptions, of course, which are explained further below. However, generally speaking, you should not put a picture on your resume.
ATS reads top to bottom and left to right, if you have columns built into separate information the ATS might read two separate categories of information as one. Standard headers for categories, bold, capital letters, italics are all ok. Most ATS can read a PDF but Word.
