How to write a case study in eight steps Figure out the objective of the case study. Case studies require a purpose. Conduct research into the case. Interview the subject of the case study. Decide on the angle. Create a narrative story. Organise the case study into sections. Write the content. Publish in the chosen medium.
Generally, a case study is either formatted as an essay or a report. If it is the latter, your assignment is often divided into sections with headings and subheadings to ensure easy access to key points of interest.
A case study outline is a roadmap for creating a solid case study report. It helps you organize and present all the important elements in a structured way. Think of it as a blueprint that guides you through the process.
The case study format is typically made up of eight parts: Executive Summary. Explain what you will examine in the case study. Background. Provide background information and the most relevant facts. Case Evaluation. Proposed Solutions. Conclusion. Implementation. References.
Your draft should contain at least 4 sections: an introduction; a body where you should include background information, an explanation of why you decided to do this case study, and a presentation of your main findings; a conclusion where you present data; and references.
Elements of a case study Title: Section one identifies the scenario in no more than one line or sentence. Overview: Section two offers a summary, explaining the scenario in detail. Problem: Section three defines the issue presented in the scenario. Solution: Section four provides the chosen course of action.
The best case study layout samples include clear data illustrations with minimal text, which are more effective than a paragraph full of numbers. Experiment with the best way to showcase the statistics or data you have.
Case study format: Include at least four sections in your case study: an introduction, background information explaining why the case study was created, presentation of findings and a conclusion / recommended process solution. Appendices should be used for all data and references.
