Bronze plans usually have the lowest monthly premiums but the highest costs when you get care. They can be a good choice if you usually use few medical services and mostly want protection from very high costs if you get seriously sick or injured.
Covered California health insurance plans and all health plans in the individual and small-group markets are sold in four levels of coverage: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
In plans that combined the prescription drug and medical deductibles, bronze plans had the highest average deductible amount ($7,481), followed by silver plans ($4,890) and gold plans ($1,650). The plans with the lowest average combined deductible amount were the platinum plans, with an average deductible of $45.
Platinum plans usually have the highest monthly premiums of any plan category but pay the most when you get medical care.
Highlights of the Bronze Plan The Bronze plans (like all of the plans) includes free preventative care such as annual physicals (including mammograms and colonoscopies), well-baby checkups, and immunizations. Basic pediatric vision and dental preventative services are included at no charge for children 18 and under.
Levels of plans in the Health Insurance Marketplace : Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Categories (sometimes called metal levels) are based on how you and your insurance plan split costs. Categories have nothing to do with quality of care. (Catastrophic plans are available to some people.)
It is important to note that the monthly premium for a Bronze plan will be low, but they have higher out-of-pocket costs so consumers will pay for most routine care themselves, which could cost them more during the year than plans in other metal levels.
