Urine drug testing generally requires a minimum of 30 mL of urine (depending on the kit type) collected in a private restroom. In the authors experience, the sample collection most often is unobserved in clinical practice. Most laboratories keep urine samples for a limited time, often 7 days.
You urinate into the collection container until it is filled to a pre-marked level. Once filled, the collection container is moved out of the urine stream, and you can finish urinating into the toilet. Urine drug testing is painless, although you may experience anxiety during the collection process.
Urine drug test collections The collector pours the specimen into a bottle that is sealed with tamper-evident tape. The specimen and completed Custody and Control Form (CCF) are sent to the laboratory for testing.
If you cant hand your urine sample in within 1 hour, you should put the container in a sealed plastic bag then store it in the fridge at around 4C. Do not keep it for longer than 24 hours. The bacteria in the urine sample can multiply if it is not kept in a fridge. If this happens, it could affect the test results.
Label specimen with name, date and time of collection. Place the specimen in the transport bag. Transport the specimen to the lab as soon as possible. If delay is necessary, specimen may be kept in your refrigerator up to 24 hours.
The collector hands the drug testing cup to the subject and positions himself in a manner to directly observe urine leave the body and enter the specimen bottle. Diluted urine can be an indication that a subject is attempting to flush his/her system with excessive amounts of fluids in order to avoid drug detection.
The most commonly used drug tests require that you give a urine sample. You will be given instructions for how to collect your sample. In certain cases, a health care professional or other person may need to be present while you provide your sample.
label a sterile, screw-top container with your name, date of birth and the date. wash your hands (and genitals if possible) start to pee and collect either a first-catch or a mid-stream sample of urine in the container you will be told which type to collect. screw the lid of the container shut.
