Kathy and Terry are relocating from New Jersey to Maryland, first moving into a temporary apartment until their new home is ready. They are dividing their belongings between the apartment and a storage facility. To assist with the move, they hired a professional moving company after researching and receiving an in-home estimate. A representative evaluated their home to determine the moving cost based on the volume of goods. Pleased with the price, Kathy and Terry's full-service move is now in progress, starting with the packing phase where boxes are being taken from a smaller truck into their garage.

The least used room in your house is always the best place to start, and also the hardest to pack.
The following tips can help you get started. Start with items you wont need right away. Pack similar items together. Keep essentials packed separately for quick access. Label each box by its contents and room. Color code boxes by each room. Allow yourself plenty of time to pack.
One Month Before the Move Begin packing decorations that serve no practical purpose and items you seldom use, such as fine china, holiday dcor, and anything in your storage closets. Contact charities and arrange to have items picked up that didnt sell during your moving sale.
What to Pack First When Moving Pre-Packing. Before you can box up your belongings, you have to know what needs boxing up in the first place. Storage Items. Artwork. Fine China. Specialty Cooking Equipment. Out of Season Clothes. Shoes and Jewelry. Toys and Games.
We suggest these additional personal items to pack in your first night kit: Toilet paper and paper hand towels. Bath towels, washcloths. Sleeping accessories such as a breathing machine or sound machine. Cosmetics and other beauty items. Personal electronic devices including laptops.
Items that are in your home purely for aesthetic purposes are good items to pack first when moving. This might include artwork, decor, books, magazines, and the like. These items are easy to pack first because chances are you wont need them during the move or the weeks preceding it.
Ask yourself these 10 questions to decide what to keep and what to throw away when moving: Do I really need this? Is it in good condition? Would I buy it again today? How often do I wear or use this? Will this fit or match my new home? Is this worth the space its taking up? Do I have more than one of these items?
Heres what to do two or three days before your move: Pack one room at a time. Pack similar items together. Label your boxes clearly. Keep an inventory of important items. Carefully wrap fragile items. Pack a suitcase of essentials. Store boxes neatly after each room is emptied. Carefully store any bags of screws or parts.
