consider this situation suppose you want to make your font bold or italic but heres the problem the phone that you might be using doesnt have bold or italic what to do then well Photoshop has a feature that allows you to mimic the characteristics of bold and italic and today were going to be talking about just that so without any further ado lets get started [Music] so here were in Photoshop lets go ahead and add some text to it so select the text tool you already know that and Im gonna choose the font babies new way I dont know how to pronounce it Im sorry about that and lets choose bold it does have bold all right now lets type in say Need for Speed or Ill do it in separate layers but heres the problem its typing strain I wanted italic there is bold but there is no italic or for example you want to use the bold and you want to make it italic or you want to use the italic and you want to make it bold what to do then well first of all lets go ahead and change the color

The faux bold option is listed at the bottom of the character panel. With the text tool active, double-click on the text layer thumbnail, then hit CTRL+T, this will pop up the character panel, the faux bold is the first button on the row of icons at the bottom of the panel.
Choose the words you wish to make bold and then highlight them with your cursor. The font style dropdown menu is available in the Type toolbar or the Character panel. The default on the dropdown should say Regular, and once clicked it should give you options for different styles. Choose the Bold style in the dropdown.
Faux bold is made by slightly stretching the vertical strokes of the original font. In the image below, I've used Droid Sans Bold, which has consistent strokes. Yet in the faux bold, the vertical strokes are a little thicker than the horizontal strokes.

Once you're happy with your text, decide which word or phrase you want to be in italics. Then use your cursor to click and drag over those words to highlight them. Now go to the Upper Settings Bar or the Character panel and click the dropdown menu that says Regular. From the dropdown options, choose Italic.
Highlight the text, select More in the character palette menu, then select Faux Bold or Faux Italic. Uncheck Faux Bold and Faux Italic when you're done and avoid further altering the text.

To edit text on a type layer, select the type layer in the Layers panel and select the Horizontal or Vertical Type tool in the Tools panel. Make a change to any of the settings in the options bar, such as font or text color. When you're finished editing, click the check mark in the options bar.
Highlight the text you want to edit, then look to the Character panel or Type toolbar. Find the text format dropdown menu (it usually defaults to "Regular") and select it, then choose either Bold or Italic to change the highlighted text.
