The letter should be about one page in length and generally consist of three parts: opening, body, and closing. The writer should explain the relationship between himself/herself and the candidate as well as why the letter is being written.
Letters of Recommendation (LOR) Best Practices: 1) Letters should be written on UW letterhead with 10-12 point font size, since spaced and no more than 2 pages in length.
Font sizes of between 10 and 12 and standard publishing fonts such as Times New Roman and Century are preferred. The convention is to single-space your type, skip lines between each paragraph, and either consistently choose no indentation for paragraphs or indent each paragraph one-half inch.
Use a business letter format using a twelve point font size in either Arial or Times New Roman. Write your letter on your business or organization letterhead if possible. The recipient likely reads dozens if not hundreds of letters, so keep yours concise and to the point.
Recommendation letters follow a particular format and layout. The format typically consists of 1) the letterhead and full contact information, 2) a salutation, 3) an introduction, 4) an overview, 5) a personal story, 6) a closing sentence and 7) your signature.
Change the Font to Courier New 10 which is used by ERAS. Keep it to less than one-page single spaced with one-inch margins all around and spaces between paragraphs. Do not use any special characters such as Bold, Italics, Underlines, , , , @,#,% etc. You dont want it to look too cluttered.
Recommendation letter format Times New Roman font always looks very professional, and the font size should be 11 or 12 point. You should address the recommendation letter directly to the person responsible for the application or to the Human Resources department if you dont have a name (in the case of a company).
ERAS Letter of Recommendation Sample Another point is font. Elegant and curve styles may look flashy and attractive. However, it does not look professional. Remember that for letters of recommendation ERAS prefers using Times New Roman or Arial font of 10pt.
