The DHPP 5-in-1 vaccine is a single shot that is given to puppies in a series of injections starting at about 6 weeks of age and given every 2 to 4 weeks until the puppy is 16 weeks old. All adult dogs should receive a booster shot of the DHPP vaccine either yearly or every 3 years based on your vets recommendation.
After a dogs initial vaccine series of 2 boosters (done 3-4 weeks apart), your pet will require annual boosters to maintain the most effective immunity against Lepto.
At 8 weeks of age, your puppy will receive their first dose of the distemper complex, which includes vaccines for distemper, adenovirus (hepatitis), parainfluenza, parvo and leptospirosis. This vaccine is usually given by the breeder or rescue before you adopt your new puppy.
The DHPP vaccine is a standard annual vaccine. It is a combo vaccine that protects against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvo. Bordetella is the Kennel cough vaccine. It should be given to dogs that will spend time around many other dogs.
DHPP Side Effects Allergic reaction like a swollen face. Swelling at the vaccine site. Fever. Lethargy. Hives. Vomiting. Lack of appetite. Difficulty breathing.
Its also referred to as Bordetella, because Bordetella bronchiseptica is the most common type of bacteria that causes canine kennel cough, and the vaccine to prevent kennel cough is referred to as the Bordetella vaccine.
These will include the core vaccines, which are administered in a series of three: at 6-, 12-, and 16 weeks old. The core vaccines include the DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, and parainfluenza). Your pup will also need a rabies vaccination, which is usually around $1520.
