Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast, Iamp;#39;m Bill Jelen. Today, a question sent in by Chuck from Virginia. Chuck is doing something interesting here in Excel. Heamp;#39;s using the ability to take part of a cell and bold part of the cell. Now, how do we do that? Generally, youamp;#39;re going to go into the formula bar and choose the characters that you want to make bold, and then Ctrl+B. Or, you know, if youamp;#39;re in Excel 2007, you can use that new mini bar that pops up, and use that to bold just part of a cell, but not all of a cell. So Chuck uses this method, but heamp;#39;s running into a lot of problems because, unfortunately, that amp;quot;ABC Companyamp;quot; is text that he now needs to change. So he chooses those cells and goes into Edit, Replace, and changes ABC Company to XYZ Company. And even if we choose a format here and say that we want to change the bold into bold, unfortunately the Edit, Replace, does not deal with characters that are formatted as b

Shortcut Keys to Bold Text in Excel Simply select all the cells which contain text that you want to be bold, then hold Ctrl and press B. This will turn all the text in all selected cells bold. If all the selected cells are already bold, it will return them to standard (or un-bold them).
- Click the B (bold) icon in the Font group on the Excel Ribbon (usually found in the Home tab). - Right-click the selected text, choose Format Cells, go to the Font tab in the Format Cells dialog box, and check the Bold option.
Alternatively, right-click on any ribbon tab and select Customize the Ribbon. From the Quick Access Toolbar option, choose All Commands from the dropdown list on the left. Scroll down and select the Strikethrough command, and click Add.
The only time I typically see an exclamation point in an excel formula is when referencing a cell on a different sheet. For example, if you have a workbook with two sheets, Sheet1 and Sheet2, you might have a formula on Sheet1 that is =Sheet2! A1, which would return the value of cell A1 on Sheet2.
Heres how: Click Open in Excel. Select the cells containing the data you want to format. Click the Format Cells box launcher. Tip: You can also press Ctrl+5. In the Format Cells box, under Effects, click Strikethrough. Save the workbook and reopen it in Excel for the web to see the changes.
If you prefer to use your keyboard, the shortcut for Windows is Alt, H, 4. For a Mac, the shortcut is Command + Shift + X. Pressing the shortcut once will apply the strikethrough. Pressing it a second time will remove the strikethrough effect.
3:33 5:43 So this formula would say go and find whatever information is inside of sheet 2 cell a1. And displayMoreSo this formula would say go and find whatever information is inside of sheet 2 cell a1. And display it right here. But that exclamation mark defines this as a sheet.
You can also press Ctrl+B on your keyboard to make selected text bold, Ctrl+I to apply italics, and Ctrl+U to apply an underline.
