Behavioural contracting is an intervention technique in which a client signs an agreement to make certain behaviour changes within a specified time, usually with explicitly defined rewards for adherence or success.
The contract outlines expectations for your childs behavior. It lays out any specific behaviors your child struggles with or is working on, along with goals for those behaviors. Ideally the goals will be attainable but still challenging. It also outlines the rewards and consequences for meeting or not meeting goals.
What are Behavior Contracts? Behavior contracts are a negotiated agreement between the adult/teacher and student. The focus is on increasing positive behaviors the teacher wants to see in the classroom by providing daily pre-correction, prompting, and reinforcement of desired behaviors.
These components include goal setting, reinforcement strategies, and consequences for behavior. By combining these elements, behavior contracts provide a structured framework for promoting positive behavior change in individuals with autism.
The components of a great behavioral contract Specific targeted behaviors. Expected consequences for breaking the contract. A track record of when a student has met the behavioral contract expectations. An expected contract duration. A celebration once students have met all expectations in their contracts.
