Bold text is used to make certain text stand out and catch the readers attention. It helps to convey importance, emphasize key points, and make information easier to find and understand.
It is generally accepted that headings should be bold. Not just for the web, but in general writing too. Bolding provides a visual cue that tells readers it is a main idea or theme for a section. Even the APA style guide recommends bolding of headers
Bold: Lightweight or thin fonts are often associated with beauty, femininity, and softness. In contrast, bold fonts are associated with confidence, masculinity, and power. Rounded vs. Angular: Rounded fonts and light fonts also project softness and femininity and give off a sense of support or understanding.
Emphasis and Hierarchy In design, creating a visual hierarchy is crucial. Bold typefaces help establish this hierarchy by allowing you to emphasize certain elements over others. Important information can be highlighted and organized effectively, making it easier for the viewer to navigate and understand the content.
Bold text. Bold text, sometimes referred to as emphasized text, should only be used to convey information labels and should always be paired with a colon (:). Bold may also be used to label a topic within a table or chart without a colon as long as no other non-bold words follow the words which are in bold.
Bold strongly stands out from regular text, and is often used to highlight keywords important to the texts content. For example, printed dictionaries often use boldface for their keywords, and the names of entries can conventionally be marked in bold.
Boldface creates emphasis by contrasting lighter and heavier weights of the same typeface. Boldface is often used for captions, subheads and stand-alone words and phrases. Use boldface sparingly within text, and only where a strong emphasis is desired, because it creates a harsh visual interruption.
